The room is unusually cold and dark as Kali suddenly jolts awake. An open window next to her bed lets a gust of wind trough causeing her to shiver slightly. Her heart is racing as she takes in quick breaths of air and slowly releases her grip, letting the covers fall to the floor. It was all a nightmare.... her bare feet softly touch the floor as she rises out of bed and begins the dark journey through the hall to the staircase. Still dazed from the horific images that disturbed her sleep, she stumbles through the blackness, an uneasy feeling lingers through the house. The cold stale air carries a tiny unfamiliar voice to her ears
"Kali-chan..." She reaches the stairs. "Kali-chan..." The voice now rings out through the silence,"Are you comming Kali-chan?" Kali's eyes snap wide open as she finds herself facing down a small child at the end of the staircase. His hand is outstretched towards her, and a warm smile spreads across his shadowed face. She feels drawn to the child and uncertainly reaches a shy trembling hand out towards him. As their palms meet she can fel her body begin to shrink and regress in age.
"Yes" she says, now the image of her childhood self. She looks up to the boy and smiles cheerfully.
"Come on!" he tugs at her arm and pulls her down the hallway at a running pace. Her arm stretches to it's extent as she attempts to keep pace with him. In the distance a large door becomes apparent. It is ajar and the light from the other side cuts through the darkness like a knife. Apon reaching the door, the boy throws it open and rushes inside.
"Uh!" Kali's grip begins to slip and separates from his as she stumbles and falls to her knees. Unaware, the boy continues running ahead to the light. "Wait!" she cries reaching for him "Wait!Wait! Please wait for me!" now screaming into the emptiness. Everything once again turns to black and the boy is just an undefined silluete in the distance. Lost and affraid, she rises to her feet as the tears stream down her cheeks. I never did like being alone.... Discombobulated, she wanders around the darkness of what appears to be an endless, featureless room. The door is no longer in sight. Where am I? She backs into a wall. "Huh?" turning around to inspect it she finds it's made entirely of a single, seamless pain of glass. It's cold to the touch, like ice, and yet the sight of her own wavering reflection seems to comfort her. She closes her eyes and sinks back against the wall.
"Is something wrong Kali-chan?" looking up she now sees that the glass is reflecting a shadowy image of her adult self, dressed in a dark gown.
"Uh!..." she removes her hand from the glass and backs away from the wall. The shadow's facial features now become apparent.
"Is something wrong, Kali-chan?" her aged reflection smiles cruely down at her and then begins to disappear, fadding back into the reflection of young Kali's terrified face.
"Uh! No..."she backs off even further.
       "Kali-chan..."
"No...No! NO!" turning away she runs in the other direction. Run...Run... She can hear the voices in her head now, taunting her. Run...No I musn't run...I won't run away "I won't run away, I WON'T RUN FROM YOU!" she cries stopping dead in her tracks. She's hit dead on by a powerful gust of wind. She crosses her arms in front of her face as her hair blows wildly behind her. Suddenly, from nowhere comes a large flock of crows and she finds herself trapped in the middle of them. "Ugh!" She opens one eye and continues to press onward trhough the maddening flock. In the midst of the black cloud of feathers and screaching beaks she spots a pure white dove, struggling just as she is for escape. "Huh?!?" The birds begin to part around the dove and just as it breaks free, the sharp action of a silver scyth cuts through the air striking the bird and Kali watches as it tumbles to the ground. "Uh!" she gasps as it falls at her feet, followed by a shower of stray feathers and then it's own, dismembered, wing. She kneels down and picks up the bird, holding it gentely in her hands. The tears begin to flow from her eyes as she looks down at it's dying form. They land one after another apon the bird's open wound. "Blood...", she holds th ebird tightly to her chest, "so much blood!"
Are you affraid to die? The voices once again mock her.
"Help us..."she sobs and the tears stream down her cheeks. Her shirt is soaked in the animal's blood.
Are you afraid to live?...Are you affraid?...
"Somebody please, don't leave me alone anymore! Somebody...please...please...", she chokes on the words as she clings to the bird that hangs limply in her arms. It's once bright eyes are now glossed over and lifeless, "....so cold....".
A shadowed figure creeps up from behind her and embraces Kali in her arms "Don't worry, I'll help you..." Frightened yet grief stricked, Kali doesn't pull away. The figure with long flowing hair places a hand on the child's face and turns her head till Kali is nose to nose with her. "I'll help you..." With her other arm now she pulls a knife from her side and holds the tip to Kali's back. Feeling the point grace her skin, Kali's whole body stiffens with fear. An evil smile spreads across the figure's face, "I'll help you!" in one quick motion she plunges the knife into Kali's back. Kali arches forward in pain, her eyes widen in shock, and the figure kackels wildly. Suddenly a string of flames shoots out and surrounds the figure. She gasps for air shrieking and screaming as she is engulped in flames. "AHHHH!!!!" They swirl around her and she begins to dissapear.
Once she is completely gone the flames move on to Kali. She screams as they burn away at her clothing, and then morph into ribbons that snap against her skin binding her from head to toe. They pull tighter and tighter, until their elasticity gives and she bursts free and falls to the ground. Burnt, wounded and sobbing she is ready to declair her defeat, when a gust of wind draws her tearful eyes ahead of her. Sensing the warmth of a light in the distance she pulls together her strength and lifts her head. "Huh?" There she finds a hooded young girl engulped in light, at the tunnel's end. The girl has her back to Kali and with her head lowered, stands in silent prayer in a pool of sparkeling iredecent water. The wind pulls at her cape and Kali sees that the girl is conceling a pair of large white wings that are mounted on her back. An angel?... The wind blows her cape completely off her back and Kali can now see that the girl's left wing has been completely severed from her body, leaving only a bloody bandaged stump in it's place. It reminds her of the lifeless bird she still holds tightly in her arms. She looks down apon the dove that shares the same injuries as the angelic girl. "....hope...", she says in a weak voice and struggles to reach out her hand to the angel. "Please....we need your help!"
Interupted from her prayer, the girl turns and looks down apon the wounded child grasping a dead bird in her arms. A sorrowful look is on her face and the stains from a trail of tears lingers on her cheeks. Her angelic form resembles that of Kali's older self and the child now looks apon her with fear.
"No one can help us now...", the angel whispers, "We can't escape this ngitmare...." a tear falls from her face causing the pool at her feet to ripple and distort her reflection. "There is no hope for us....".

"Huh!?!", Kali jolts out of bed, awakening to the iritating sound of her alarm clock as it buzzes, the display flashing the bumbers 6:30 in a neon green light. Sweat drips down her face from fear. She pants as she looks around her room. Everything is normal. On the side of her bead sits a chair and apon it lies her new clothes she had put out the night before. The sun shines through the transparent drapes and the room seems calm and cheerful. She hits the button on her alarm turning it off and breaths out a sigh of relief. "Just a dream...". She gets out of bed and prepares for the day. Shee stands before the mirror, now fully dressed in her school uniform; the navy blue skirt with a white top partially covered by a matching blue vest and coat toped off with a bright red scarf around the collar. She digs into her jacket pocket and pulls out her school ID. She looks at it with a smile "A brand new uniform, just for today!" The excitement of starting a new school temporarily erases the thought of that haunting nightmare she had hust awoken from. Soon it will be the begining of her highschool career, something she's been waiting so long for. She replaces the card and heads downstairs to the kitchen table. Mother...her back is turned to Kali, as she sits sipping her coffee from a mug. ...No breakfast today...as usual. Kali smiles pathetically and looks down in shame. She grabs her bag and walks to the front door. Always...she could never love me....Have I shamed her that much?....no matter how hard I've tried...."I'm leaving for school now, wish me luck...." she reaches for the front door and turns the knob, stepping on a pile of mail. Each envelope address to her, lying on the floor in a collective heap that had been there for some time now. She looks back at her mother She's rather prtend I don't exist.... she thinks as she closes the door behind her.
She walks down the street , her head hung low and her bag clased in front of her. From behind her she hears the giggling and quickening footsteps of a group of girls. "HEY! KALI-CHAN!" one of them yells out as she smacks her on the back.
       "H-"
"Hey we're all going shopping after school." She interupts Kali's response gesturing to the two other girls that have accompanied her. They smile and giggle. "You're coming right?" she pressures Kali.
       "I-"
"Of course she is, Kali loves to shop. Don't you Kali?" another one strikes in.
       "I-"
"Then we'll count you in!" the first girl says closing the conversation, "Gotta run! See you in class!" they all giggle and run off ahead, leaving Kali a bit confused
Those are my friends, Chiharu, Aikia, and Achiko, she thinks to herself. "I haven't seen them all summer. I wonder what they've been up to....".
She finally reaches her destination. A large brick wall surrounds the building as if it were a fortress. The words "_______ high school" are engraved into a metal plate that hangs on the wall near the enterance. Kali has already found herself lost in a crowd. With anticipation she walks though the hall to her locker. "Falling into the old routine again." she says opening her locker and placing her shoes inside, then proceeding thought the hall to her homeroom. "It's not even first period yet and I'm dead already...." she yawns covering her mouth with her hand. She opens the door to the class room and looks around. Everyone is full of energy, conversing with all the people they haven't seen since last year's graduation. All the familiar faces now return to her, along with a couple of new ones. She finds a desk and plops down into it. "I didn't sleep well last night at all..." another yawn. Her sleepy eyse close slightly "What could that dream have meant?" Her head droops down over her desk "Such a night mare..." she can barely hear the teacher enter the room and begin to take role. "...maybe it was just the stress of starting in a new school..." she slumps down onto the desk and begins to doze off.
"Ms.Kokueino!" the teacher hovers over her shoulder.
She jumps up,smacking him in the face with her book case. "Kyah! Stay away you creepy shadows!" she screams. Her eyes bug out in shock as she realizes that she hit something. "Huh?!?" Looking around she can see that the whole class is in hysterics. Putting down her bag she turns and is greeted by the teacher's angery battered face. "Uh...hehe" she smiles and giggles nervously, "here?"She immediatly finds herself standing in the hallway with tow large bundles of text books in her arms as punishment. A while later the bell to end class rings, and she sighs in releif.
After school she once again is greeted by the three girls. "Kali! Hey we heard what happened!" Chiharu yells out to her, gesturing for her to join them.
"You really smacked the professor huh?" Achiko asks.
"You should have seen, the look on her face. It was so funny!" Aikia, the only one who had actually seen adds in."Hey I heard that Seito's gonna ask someone out."
"A confession, really! To who?" Chiharu asks excitedly.
"Me of course, you know he's crazy about me. He can't get over these beutiful eyes of mine." Achiko insists.
"I heard it was some gaijin..." Aikia says angering Achiko.
"Oh well. Come on lets go to Ginza. We've got some shopping to do!" Chiharu says draging Kali with her.
They all go to Chiharu's favorite book store.Apon entering the store, Kali was over come by hunger and following the potent smell of food, drifted over to the tiny diner. Her stomach grumbles violently as she reaches the counter.
"Can I help you?"The lady at the counter asks to take her order and she is quick to respond.
"Um...a cheese burger, fries, a drink, and...oooh Ice cream!" She pulls her money from her pocket, and holds it out to the lady who is pusing the buttons on the cash register. Just then Chiharu comes running up to her.
"Kali-chan! Can I borrow some money plllleeeeeeaaaaaasssssseeeeee! I really want this book" She hold out a book entitled "How to Get Strait A's in High School Literature". Kali gives her an odd look, and she snatches the money out of her hand. "Thanks Kali-chan" she runs off.
"Excuse me..." the lady behind the counter says with her order ready and her hand out expecting payment."You're order is ready."
Kali franticallly digs in her pocket and comes ulp with about 25 cents worth of change. She looks around and sees that there are thin mints for a quarter. "Uh...hehe...can I think I'll just have one of these instead..." she laughs nervously. The lady gives her an evil look and accepts her money for the mint.

To take her mind off of her hunger, the girls take Kali to a bridle shop. "Come on Kali it'll be fun, we can get out pictures taken, you'll forget you are hungry" They drag her into the store and have her dress up in the most expensive gown they can find. The dressing room attendent aids her over to a mirror. "So when's the big day?" he asks.
Embaraced she responds "Oh I'm not getting married, my frineds thought it would be fun to come here..."
Hearing that he gives her a dirty look and says slyly "Oh...Well You look great in that dress." Once the girls see that she's out of the dressing room Chiharu screams "Kali only braught us here because she's in love with some new guy from class. They have to run away and enlope cause she's pregnate with his child. And now she's even hitting on the dressing room attendant!" Everyone stops what they're doing and looks at her with shame. The attendent backs away from her and the girls giggle as she begins to cry. They leave Kali in the store and as they're leaving she can here them talk amongst themselfs "The plan worked guys, that'll teach her to think she's good enough to be our friend."

After running home in tears, she runs to her room and falls to the bed. She cryies herself to sleep. In her dream she sees herself once again wearing the wedding dress she tried on in the shop. Now staring into the full length mirror she sees the reflection of a man appear behind her. "Nice" He says folding his arms around her.
"What are you doing here?" she asks him blushing.
"Just enjoying the view, it's a nice color on you." he says as she stares into the mirror.
"...but I will never be a bride...I'm not good enough to be abyone's bride..." she looks down in shame.
"You're perfect Kali-chan. Perhapse someday, after I find you, I'll make you my bride."he smiles.
She turns around and looks up into his eyes "Really?..."
"Really." He reasures her and leans in to kiss her. Kali wakes up to the buzz of the alarm just before his lip reach hers.
Back at school she wanders the hall lost in a daze. She passes the girls on he way to class. They give her an evil look and start laughing so she looks away and contiues walking, imagining the mysterious guy from her dream the night before. She thinks to herself This isn't the first them he's shown up in a dream of mine, who is he? Just then she runs smack into a new kid who's was rushing thought the hall. Her bag and books go flying in every direction as she falls to the floor. When she opens her eyes she finds herself lying ontop of him, their lips touching in an accidental kiss."Uh!" A funny feeling builds in the pit of her stomach as she stares into his widened eyes. He seems to have realized something himself. The girls look on in shock as they see Kali kissing the new kid.
